50 years on and still going strong !!
The Zephyr and Zodiac Owners Club of Melbourne Inc. (ZZOCM) was formed in 1974 and owes its origins to the late John Peterson, who hosted the first meeting at his home.
Some 14 keen enthusiasts joined the ZZOCM at that meeting, with most having since performed leadership roles, and still remain active within the club. Membership numbers increased steadily and for some time now has averaged 70+ members, many of whom live in country areas, whilst some live interstate and even overseas.
The ZZOCM welcomes and caters for all preferences from original and unrestored, restored, concourse and modified Zephyr, Zodiac, Consul and Granada vehicles
The Zephyr & Zodiac Owner's Club Melbourne has already successfully hosted three International Conventions in Victoria and has commenced planning another to celebrate our 50th Anniversary in 2024.
The ZZOCM is very proud of its history and appreciates the dedication and enthusiasm of all members who have contributed over the life of the club.
Of particular note, whilst we have a common interest in the cars we own, the ZZOCM has a very social and family focused culture. We believe that this is the key to the longevity of our club.
Membership
Membership is open to all enthusiasts of the Ford Zephyr, Zodiac, Consul and Granada range.
It is not a requirement to own one or more of these vehicles
Club Meetings
The ZZOCM traditionally meets from 8pm on the first Tuesday of each month (except for January & November, so as not to clash with Melbourne Cup Day and New Year’s celebrations) at:
The Harry Atkinson Art & Craft Centre on Lake Grove, Coburg North, Vic 3058
(easy to find on your preferred GPS map format or in your Melway Map 17 J 10)
Meetings are usually well attended with some dedicated members travelling up to 200 kilometres to attend with others participating by Zoom
The formal side of these meetings is aimed at being dealt with as quickly as possible, so that the rest of the evening can be set aside for refreshments to socialize, exchange technical tips and enjoy the fellowship with all members present.
Club Outings
Each month we aim to have an interesting run to various locations at metropolitan or country destinations, attempting to cater for all districts within the State. The committee goes to great lengths to cater for all interests, e.g.; car shows, festivals, scenic drives, picnic locations, motor sport and more. This can also consist of runs with other car clubs.
Such events include metropolitan or country destinations in order to cater for members in all parts of the state. Whilst most outings are day trips, the occasional overnight/weekend trips are well supported.
Networking
The ZZOCM enjoys long standing and special relationships with several other likeminded clubs within Victoria and interstate. There have been many successful joint runs in the past and this is something that we aim to continue.
The camaraderie and general interest in our cars extends to member's partners, family and friends is enjoyed by all.
Communication
While it is accepted that many of our members are unable to regularly attend meetings and runs, this does not in any way impact on or affect anyone becoming or being a member of our club.
A monthly newsletter is circulated which aims to provide all members with up to date information of what is happening within the club. This effort is supported by this website and Facebook presence, as we strive to keep pace with social network platforms.
